Well,the short answer: you happen to be right.

The long answer: as I tried to rebuild libsndfile with FLAC enabled, it
didn't build out of the box with the latest flac-1.2.1, so I was right
not building it with FLAC :-).

It's a problem in libsndfile, and it is fixed in the latest prerelease
versions of libsndfile according to Erik.

Luckily, I managed to find a patch for the last released libsndfile-1.0.17:

and now I do have FLAC support in ecasound.

It would be nice to have the list of to be supported through libsndfile
audio file in ecasound 'confugure' summary.
