Strange, that should work. Can you run mpg123 from the console (i.e. are
you sure the symlink works)?

A second way to make it work, add the following to ~/.ecasound/ecasoundrc

ext-cmd-mp3-input = mpg321 --stereo -r %s -b 0 -q -s -k %o %f
