I was having the same OS X problems reported above.
The new 2.3.5-cvs build gets much further, but dies with:
/bin/sh ../libtool --mode=link gcc -ffast-math -fstrict-aliasing
-funroll-loops -DNDEBUG -DENABLE_DBC -g -O2 -avoid-version
-export-dynamic -shared -nostartfiles -o pyecasound.so pyecasound.lo
gcc -ffast-math -fstrict-aliasing -funroll-loops -DNDEBUG -DENABLE_DBC
-g -O2 -shared -nostartfiles -o pyecasound.so pyecasound.o
gcc: unrecognized option `-shared'
ld: Undefined symbols:
make: *** [pyecasound.so] Error 1
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2
Hope this helps.
