Hmm, try uncommenting the line
/* #define ECI_ENABLE_DEBUG */
in 'ecasound/libecasoundc/ecasoundc_sa.c', and then recompile your app.
You should see more debugging info. Also, you can increase the engine
verbosity by issuing "debug 511" ECI command at the start of your program.
I'd be interested in the logs there produce before and after the bug

Yup, the ECI functionality should work just fine without any low-latency
patches (i.e. it's not timing sensitive).
